In Praise of Plan B

Dr. Tim Kimmel's In Praise of Plan B was such an enjoyable read.  Kimmel certainly excels at relating humorous and inspiring anecdotes that hit close to home.  I found myself picking up Plan B anytime I had a few spare moments, and felt lighter each time for having done so.

Despite the pleasantness of reading this book, I would warn potential buyers of one thing.  If the book description left you expecting a sort of self-help, 8-easy-steps-to-turning-your-attitude-around-when-life-knocks-you-down kind of book, you'd better keep looking.

Rather than elaborating on the keys to accepting the Plan B we find ourselves living (which is what I expected from the book description), Kimmel simply shares a series of unrelated stories and discusses the lessons to be learned.  Surprisingly, not all the stories even seem to fit the Plan B theme.  For example, I thoroughly enjoyed the story about Kimmel cutting a frozen lasagna with a cordelss power saw while his wife was out of town... but it would be quite a stretch to parallel that incident to living one's Plan B.  Nor would that fun story particularly "show readers how Plan B can be a powerful new launch pad to achieve lifelong dreams -- whether in work, play, marriage, family, finances, education, as well as overcoming moral and ethical challenges," as the book description claims.

So, if you're looking for a light and fun, devotional-style, relatable commentary on daily life, you will most certainly enjoy this book.  If you're searching for direction as you attempt to make the best of your life's Plan B, I'd recommend looking for a more in-depth book.

Summary: a fun and inspiring read, but doesn't quite live up to its stated purpose

I received this book free from Zondervan for the purpose of providing my honest review.  I was not required to give a positive review.
